Organisers
Only comment I would make as organiser is a thanks to team leaders and helpers on the day.
Garry Drew
Planner
We have lost the use of significant parts of Bestwood without gaining useful access to the newly opened areas like the reclaimed colliery tip, etc. In addition, there were the usual conflicts of interest with horse riders and rampant motorcyclists. On top of that, we have to respect the efforts of the Rangers to create new habitats which in their early stages are vulnerable and need protection. So we had a much reduced area to play with and the courses, especially the longer ones, ended up with lots of to-ing and fro-ing and rather more controls than usual. Hopefully the large scale map was a help in this respect, and the unusual scale wasn't a problem. I hope too that you enjoyed your foray across the Fire Service field and into the final section of woodland; those who struggled in there proved how important it is to retain concentration right to the end.
Today, for me, proved once again how important it is to have a strong club structure. And beyond that, that we all depend on the people in the club who are prepared to put in much more time and effort than one could reasonably expect. So I am indebted to everyone who turned up early to help hang controls - who all had other things to do on the day as well - Jad Dziadosz, John Dalton, Jim Clarke and Robert Drew, and to all who helped collect in - again people who had contributed over the 2 events this weekend - Tony and Margaret Buckland, John Dalton, Helen O'Neil, and Ray Barnes - and also Roy Denney of LEI. Thanks also to Roger and Elaine Smith for doubling up and looking after one of our Finishes as well as the String Course.
Finally a big thankyou to Ray Barnes, a particularly thorough and meticulous Controller whose eagle eyes and sound judgment intercepted several careless errors, and who also took on many of the tasks I ought to have done myself.

A copybook event.
